Lexington One, Two Community Coalitions 2019 Youth Leadership Summit Recap

February 1, 2019

Columbia, SC – The Rise Above It: Lexington School District Two Community Coalition and Lexington One Community Coalition held their annual Youth Leadership Summit at Radius Church on January 24-25, 2019.

This year, the event hosted over 88 middle and 96 high school students from 16 schools across Lexington County. The students spent their morning hearing from motivational speaker James Campbell, of the Family Excellence Institute, about healthy forms of stress management and how to become a positive influence on their peers.  A presentation about the dangers of vaping, e-cigarettes and tobacco was later led by LRADAC prevention specialists, Laura Ryan and Heather Johnson, to equip the students with information to help them make the healthiest decisions possible. The topics were reinforced with interactive, prevention-focused games throughout the morning, and the summit ended with each school’s creation of a vision board displaying the benefits of a substance-free lifestyle.
