The Reconnecting Communities Coalition in Richland Two

The Reconnecting Communities Coalition brings individuals, groups and organizations representing different sectors of the community together to create a stronger Northeast.

The Coalition has a long-standing history of grass roots community effort. The Coalition was initiated in 1997 as a project of the South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina School Boards Association. The Coalition focuses on many topics, ranging from reducing and preventing substance abuse among its youth to discouraging gang activity in our community. The Coalition has been instrumental in creating a synergism of people working together.

The coalition's mission states: "Our mission is to rebuild and strengthen relationships between neighbors and their schools, recognizing that public schools play a vital role in our community and that communities must play a vital role in public schools. We believe that improving the communication between Richland Two, Fort Jackson and the Richland Northeast County community will create an environment that supports positive youth, positive families, positive schools and ultimately a positive community. By coming together we hope that dialogue is conducted in such a way that connections are strengthened and to ensure that issues affecting both groups are addressed in a positive and satisfactory manner."
