To combat the problem of underage drinking and high-risk behavior, ADP offers an alternative to having the case handled in court. In South Carolina, an alcohol conviction may result in payment of fines, suspension of driver's license, loss of financial aid and/or scholarship eligibility and a criminal record. Upon successful completion of this educational program, the charge is dismissed and the record can be cleared.
Eligibility is restricted to persons ages 17-20, charged with minor in possession of alcohol, open container or possession of fake identification.
Referrals to ADP are made in court by Magistrate and Municipal Court judges and law enforcement. The participant pays an enrollment fee of $250 to ADP and then a $100 fee for the four 2-hour counseling sessions. Upon completion, the offender may apply to the court for expungement of record. The expungement order fee is $150. The offender is then returned to the same legal status before the arrest occurred. Call (803) 576-1850 for more information.

Students are referred for various reasons including: making poor decisions, cutting classes, mood swings, severe drop in grades, family problems and experimenting with alcohol and other drugs. The student's initial assessment and drug screen result will determine appropriate placement in the program.
