"Who Can Help Me?"

LRADAC works collaboratively with Substance Abuse Professionals to provide services and training to the residents of Richland and Lexington counties. We provide services, and guidance, and resources to addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals, who specialize in addiction prevention, treatment and intervention.

Prevention Programs

The Community Services (Prevention) department develops and implements programs to reduce youth alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by addressing risk and protective factors. Risk factors are those factors that increase the likelihood of involvement with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs such as accessibility to these substances, poor family management, transitions and mobility. Protective factors reduce the likelihood of involvement with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs - examples include bonding with an individual or institution, and, strong community norms that are not favorable to use.

Intervention Programs

Intervention services allow individuals to obtain assistance before a drinking or drug problem becomes a crisis situation. The Agency provides a variety of services to meet the special needs of students, employees and individuals convicted of driving under the influence (ADSAP). The Agency also operates a drug court program for individuals referred by the courts for alcohol/other drug related arrests, excluding DUI. This program is available to adolescent offenders in Richland County.

Treatment Programs

Alcohol and other drug treatment is based on a continuum of prevention, intervention and treatment. Addiction is a progressive disease that will get worse if left untreated; however, it can be arrested and delayed. Prevention and intervention allow us to identify addiction early in the disease process so that we can keep it from getting worse, and our wide range of individualized treatment programs allow us to work with people to help them lead healthy, productive lives.
